Welcome to Dead House by R.L. Stine

Welcome to Dead House (Goosebumps, #1)

This book gives the classic Twilight Zone feeling… perhaps because it might have been written during that time. The story starts with Josh and Amanda shifting with their parents into a relic of a house willed to them by some great uncle. Funnily enough no one remembers this great uncle but a free house is a free house and Amanda’s dad has all this brilliant ideas, quit my job, and start writing as he always wanted. The kids also have a dog, who is the cutest little thing, quiet, until he meets the real estate agent. Then he is all bark bark bark. No one gets the change in the dog, and he is often scolded for his disobedience. The kids also meet the neighboring kids and they kinda hang out playing softball in the school play ground. Things aren’t exactly on the up and up, what with Amanda seeing a boy in the upstairs window and a girl on the staircase landing etc. The parents too are on each other’s throats, fighting almost non-stop. Josh apparently is the only one normal, throwing tantrums, screaming, running… and essentially being a brat. All in all, this book was a fun read. A person with some imagination can actually dream up the plot… but the way the story is woven is enough to compel you to read…

The Curse Of The Mummy’s Tomb by R.L. Stine

The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb (Goosebumps, #5)

I picked this book solely because it was written by RL Stine and I am becoming a fan of his. His books are unusual, not horrific scary, but does give you goosebumps. Another reason for selecting this book is that it was based in Egypt… a place I have visited including the pyramids and seen the mummies live and personal. The book starts with Gabe visiting Egypt with his parents, bt shortly after coming, his parents have to leave him in charge of his uncle and cuz Sari. The adventure starts with a monkey’s hand, then getting lost in the pyramids, discovering a mummy’s tomb and then… Well read the book to find out more. It reads lyk the classic horror movies, not sure which inspired what, the movies came first or the book. A fun read especially during those rainy cloudy days…

Stay Out of the Basement by R.L. Stine

Stay Out of the Basement (Goosebumps, #2)

I have come to like R.L.Stine’s books. They are very unusual and are well written. Stay Out of the Basement sounded funny when I read the title. All sorts of scenarios came into my head, zombies, Frankenstein experiments, love affairs, murder, mayhem… but it just turned out that the guy was splicing plants with his own blood… Margaret and Casey Brewer are twins, and their father is a great scientist who left his job to work on an experiment in the basement. Their mother leaves them for a sudden emergency and that is when they start noticing the odd behavior of their father. He was yelling, eating dirt, very secretive… Soon the kids investigate and try to find out who this man really is…
